Field Construction Project Manager

Job Purpose :

Reporting to the General Manager, Operations the Field Construction Project Manager leads and directs the EPC of assigned solar ground mount solar projects. Manages the overall project development, engineering, procurement, construction planning and permitting for all ground mount solar projects.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Manage the entire lifecycle of assigned projects ready for construction in the field on project sites, from initial site staging and clearing to commissioning.                                                                                              
  • Manage project activities in the field throughout lifecycle, including the allocation of adequate resources, scheduling, documentation, budget and other factors necessary for success.                                                                                                     
  • Assist and work with Head Project Manager as required to plan and prepare subcontractor estimates, contracts and sub-task project budgets.                                                                                                               
  • Assist and work with Head Project Manager as required to plan all field construction project timelines, milestones, deliverables using appropriate software.
  • Reallocate resources across multiple projects where necessary.  Identify and resolve any resource allocation discrepancies.
  • Assist and work with Head Project Manager to produce regular reports on the progress of projects.
  • Assist and work with Head Project Manager to track all project costs to ensure completion within budget.                                                                                               
  • Closely monitor the efforts and billing of third-party contractors, consultants and other specialists.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts within project teams and associate work;                                 
  • Assist and work with Head Project Manager to conduct project post-mortems in order to identify areas for improvement; make recommendations based on findings.                                                                                                         

Job Qualifications :

  • 5+ years’ experience in construction management; in renewable energy and solar power system.
  • 5+ years’ experience in ground mount solar installations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Accredited College, (Ontario preferred) or a Certified Engineering Technologist or Technician, or Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is preferred.
  • Demonstrated working experience in the solar, renewable ground mount projects
  • Experience managing multiple projects, groups and activities and a strong desire to bring best practices to team.
  • Must have working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project).
  • Possess a general working knowledge and understanding of other technical disciplines and equipment.
  • Be able to think as an entrepreneur and ‘work outside the box’.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and accurately, verbally and in writing.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and insurance
  • Hold valid Canadian Passport and clear to travel Internationally
  • Be able and flexible to travel within Ontario on short notice.

Working conditions :

Special working conditions for this position would include the following: some evening and weekend work, working outdoors, working with challenging clients and the ability to work with stringent deadlines and sometimes peak workloads.

Physical requirements :

Physical requirements for this position would include: sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time and when working outdoors onsite dealing with climate changes.

Direct reports :

This position does not require supervision of any direct reports. This could change subject to business requirements.
