Description

What it’s like working at CBC/Radio-Canada

At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.

Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.

Your challenge

CBC Digital Operations is the country’s biggest digital startup, taking on the challenges of innovating how media is made, sent and received. We are also part of Canada’s oldest and truest broadcasting company. We are trying new things. We are growing. As an entity of our own. As a voice for our country. As a team.

Digital is a part of our present and all of our future. CBC’s strategy is focused on becoming a digital-first organization that provides a digital platform for storytellers. Our mission is to engage our audience with stories they care about.

The opportunity

If you want to enter the world of digital media and be part of the change and growth of one of Canada’s most popular digital media company, this is your chance. CBC Digital Operations is looking for an iOS Developer to join our growing Native App team.

With new funding in place and a focus on increasing our audience engagement, we need a new iOS Developer who wants to use emerging technologies and platforms to build out and reinvent our native apps, including the CBC News and CBC Sports apps, as well as our presence on new and emerging platforms, like Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

This is a level of exposure and impact that few other roles provide. With a built-in, dedicated audience, the work of our mobile developers is accessed by millions of Canadians seeking information and entertainment on a National level.

If you’re passionate about Canada and you love technology, learning and being part of a collaborative team of innovators, you’ll love working at CBC.

Who you are and where are you now?

You are a mobile developer with expertise on the iOS platform. You have a portfolio of links to apps you have developed. Whether you are right out of school or have a few years in the startup world, we want to talk to creative developers who can blend cutting edge and exciting with stable and robust.

You are looking for an opportunity to join a company with a purpose, with a commitment to work-life balance and that firmly supports the career progression of their people.

What’s in it for you?

Cutting edge tech. CBC has more than 25 digital sites, all of which are mandated to reach Canadians online everywhere and every way, with a high emphasis on mobile devices. To achieve that goal, we’ve forged strong relationships with Google, Apple, and others to stay ahead of the curve.

Belonging. CBC/Radio-Canada is a Canadian institution. By joining our dynamic Digital Operations team, you will be exposed to the best of all worlds. Corporate. Public. Startup. You will be part of a team that embraces diversity and at its core, truly cares about the country and the world.

Career growth. CBC is fully invested in our people. We will provide you with the time, resources and championing that you need to keep your career here rewarding. Our Mobile Developers have spent their professional development time creating new apps, prototyping on Amazon Alexa, exploring applications for Facebook chatbots, experimenting with UX presentations and diving into the world of Virtual Reality.

How you will make a difference on a daily basis:
Collaborate with fellow team members, the design team and Architects to ensure the highest quality product is developed and best practices are followed.

Help the team to provide task breakdown and effort estimates to assist planning and implementation.

Work and collaborate with team members to write unit tests and facilitate successful releases.

Work with content-area development teams to assist in the implementation and support of digital properties based on the platforms and frameworks developed by Digital Operations.

Qualifications

What you bring:

The hands-on expertise. Your strengths lie in Apple technologies – and you are are constantly researching, chatting and working with the latest and greatest. You are familiar with Objective C, Swift, Git and Social API’s as an iOS Developer.

The education. A Computer Science, Engineering degree or equivalent is preferred, but we know not everyone gains their app development skills this way.

The desire to learn. You have the ability to quickly learn new technologies and respond to change by learning and adapting.

The communication skills. You know how to listen and relay empathy and understanding for diverse perspectives.

The confidence and the humility. Your powers of observation help you understand your audience and communicate with the right level of detail. You are open to the ideas of others.
