Department Summary:
The AML Department is responsible for developing, implementing and sustaining the Tangerine Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorist Financing and Sanctions (AML) Program and ensuring that Tangerine remains compliant with regulatory expectations as well as Scotiabank policies and standards.
Role Purpose:
The Senior Business Analyst, AML Strategy and Analytics reports directly to the Manager, AML Strategy and Analytics. The incumbent is responsible for defining, investigating and developing solutions to support the teams business strategies and objectives, coordinating the scheduled testing of AML controls within Tangerine systems, and day-to-day activities that include managing the catalog of AML reporting and analytic solutions.
The Senior Business Analyst will work closely with IT, Business Intelligence, AML Operations, and the Tangerine FIU to ensure successful delivery of objectives. Additionally, the incumbent will be participating in initiatives to identify and action opportunities for local improvements to productivity, decision effectiveness, and the user experience.

Tangerine AML Project Responsibilities:
Support the Manager, AML Strategy and Analytics to manage requirements-related activities and deliverables throughout the project life cycle (e.g. change requests, issues, risks, schedules, status reporting etc.)
Conduct data mining and analyses to generate insights and intelligence to support AML initiatives and commitments
Elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, use cases, scenarios, business analysis and workflow analysis
Write requirements / specifications using standard templates, using natural language simply, clearly, unambiguously, and concisely
Assist in the development of Test Plans and documentation to support testing
Identify, anticipate, assess, manage and resolve issues and risks related to requirements’ activities and deliverables
Assess project issues and identify solutions to meet productivity, quality and goals
Participate in regular status meetings with all stakeholders, to review project deliverables and deadlines, keeping the stakeholders needs and requirements continuously in view
Produce high quality artifacts through effective business analysis, process mapping, and requirements generation
Responsibilities to support strategic and tactical deliverables
Develop strategies and controls to mitigate existing and evolving risks
Execute a variety of AML technical testing including Business Acceptance Testing and User Acceptance Testing
Assist the team in proposing, creating and presenting communications to management, stakeholders, and other departments on changes introduced as a result of AML initiatives
Maintain a thorough understanding of AML/ATF and sanctions system capabilities, gaps and opportunities
Data Management and Reporting Responsibilities
Monitor production suite of AML and Sanctions controls within Tangerine systems
Propose analytical measurement methodologies such as Key Performance and Key Risk Indicators
Deliver on ad-hoc reporting and/or data requests both internal and external
Generate scheduled analytics reporting (weekly, monthly, quarterly)
Ensure timely and accurate completion of requests such as development of solutions and/or reports
Other analytical, data gathering and statistics related activities as they arise
Promote a culture of AML compliance within Tangerine
Skills you need to Succeed?
University or College Degree or higher in science, technology, engineering or mathematics
Minimum 3 years of related work experience within Financial Services industry
Strong financial services background with working knowledge of retail banking products and systems
AML/ATF experience or analytics knowledge
ACAMs certification is considered an asset
International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) certification is considered an asset
Demonstrated experience using the MS Office Suite, in particular MS- Excel, MS- Word and MS-Visio
Strong business analysis skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements
Experience with statistical modeling and data science methods
Experience in business intelligence and analytics platforms
Strong presentation, facilitation, analysis and problem solving skills
Strong capability to work with senior business leaders
Ability to work autonomously under tight timelines
Ability to work in a dynamic environment where processes and procedures are consistently refined
Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously
Strong verbal written and communication skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
