Information Developer | Product Team
One position available for a talented intermediate or senior writer on our product
team Based in Kitchener, ON
Requires experience writing software product documentation for complex manufacturing systems.
As part of our Information Development team, you will create documentation for our
software products and projects. Usually, you will be the sole writer on a multifunctional
team, working with developers and quality assurance specialists. Your job will be to write
and edit new material and update existing documentation as required.
Documentation typically entails a user guide or online help, installation and operations
guides and API documentation for programmers. Other challenges may include interface
design, developing training materials, web site development, system testing, peer editing,
and marketing writing and illustration.
This involves doing research – reading design documents, working directly with the software,
and interviewing the people who developed it – to understand what the software does and
then creating clear descriptions and instructions. You will write for a variety of audiences.
What are we looking for?
Fit. We are looking for someone with solid English communication skills – speaking, writing
and editing – combined with a great work ethic, a collaborative personality and a splash of
creativity!
 Are you able to pick up new software applications in a flash, quickly becoming an
advanced user? (I already know Word, how hard can it be to pick up FrameMaker?)
 Have you got a talent for creating clear, concise instructions?
 Do you enjoy mastering the complex and technical? (No detail too small and no
functionality too obscure to gloss over.)
 Do you have a memory like a vault – tons of stuff can go in there so you can draw on it
later?
 Are you flexible and dynamic enough to change priorities day to day?
 Can you balance excellence with time constraints? (What’s the best I can do in 80 hours?)
 Are you able to work within existing processes and guidelines? Can you drive process
improvements as new situations arise?
 Do you have a talent for creating graphics for use in websites, marketing materials and
manuals?
What are you looking for?
Apply to PEER Group and get a job where you can stretch and grow — a company where
technical writing is respected and valued; an environment where mentoring and continuous
improvement are important.
You’ll be part of an intimate group of writing colleagues who value each other’s abilities, a
cohesive engineering team for each product or project you work on, and a company that
encourages the pursuit of excellence. Of course, it would also be cool if the office looked like
a loft and there was designer coffee brewing in the kitchen…
