As a plumbing and HVAC distributor – wholesaler owned by the Deschenes Group Inc., Desco is currently comprised of 17 locations and 3 showrooms with markets across Ontario.
We are currently looking for a Junior Accountant to join Desco and be part of our dynamic team in our Head Office located at 7550 Tranmere Drive, Mississauga, ON.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Controller, this position is focused on daily and monthly accounting functions, financial reporting, reconciliation, budgeting and analysis.
- Follow-up and reconciliation of all cash sales (including debit and credit card transactions) and bank account transactions
- Input cash flow data for weekly cash flow projections,
- Compile the expense report payment forms and journal entries.
- Maintain Assets purchases and balance overall Fixed Assets with the General Ledger. Calculate monthly depreciation and amortization according to company guidelines,
- Compile monthly journal entries and reconcile specific Genera Ledger accounts.
- Support the Controller and the Senior Accountant with the annual audit by providing documents, reports and analysis requested by the auditors,
- Assist with the annual budgeting process, with a focus on depreciation, rental costs, promotional expenses, etc.,
- Act as back-up to the Accounting Manager and Accounts Payable personnel during vacations and absences.
WHAT YOU OFFER
- Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Accounting
- Minimum 1 year of experience in an accounting position
- Working through CPA program towards final designation preferred
- Strong Excel skills (Pivot tables, V-lookup, etc.)
- Well-developed analytical skills which enable interpretation of financial data
