Senior Analyst, US Internal Control – Supervision

 

Is this role right for you? 

Assists the U.S. Head of Supervision with maintaining a consistent supervisory framework.  Duties  include, but are not limited to, assisting with due diligence around drafting and managing Written Supervisory Procedures (“WSPs”) for each Scotiabank US business, advising Supervisors on responsibilities associated with Supervision and WSPs, tracking of WSP completion, and providing reports to Senior Management concerning completion of WSPs.  These duties contribute to the overall success of the first line of defense in managing its Supervisory obligations in accordance with U.S. regulations.

 

In this role, you will:

Assist U.S. Head of Supervision in prompt creation and amendment of WSPs to reflect changes in applicable securities laws or regulations, including notification to Supervisors regarding such changes.
Daily/weekly interaction with Supervisors concerning questions on Supervision, WSP sign-off obligations and other support.
Daily/weekly interaction with Compliance Team based on changes in regulatory rules or regulations and any other topics concerning supervisory obligations at the firm.
Respond to requests for information and documents from Internal Audit, Compliance Testing and Regulatory bodies with respect to WSPs and the Firm’s Supervisory obligations.
Work with the Firm’s third-party vendor to customize/enhance the firm’s Supervisory platform system.
Assist with periodic and annual training of Supervisors.
Create weekly and monthly reports to Senior Management with respect to timeliness of completion of WSPs and any other reports requested.
Work on ad-hoc projects concerning improvement of the Supervisory platform.
Do you have the skills you need to succeed? We’d love to work with you, if you have:

3 – 5 years of experience in a trading and/ or operational risk management role in a Financial Services Firm or Consulting Firm
In-depth understanding of financial markets, products and control functions
Good knowledge of internal controls;
Strong written and verbal communications.
Self-motivated and experience in working on complex projects
Dimensions

GBM contributes ~30% to the total net income of the Scotiabank Group;
Complex and very different business lines in GBM;
The incumbent is expected to maintain good knowledge of operational conditions throughout the applicable Business Lines and the state of regulatory matters, be able to resolve issues of non-compliance and to escalate issues promptly that are deemed to be serious, or have broad impact;
The incumbent should be able, on his/her own initiative, to resolve issues and recognize the need to involve his/her supervisor/s and/or Subject Matter Experts when required.
Working Conditions

 

Dynamic, fast paced office-based environment. The role operates in a standard trading floor environment which is often very loud and requires intense focus to effectively manage trading and operational risk;
Occasional travel may be required;
Demands can be unpredictable;
In-office work hours may be long due to tight timeframes and the dynamic environment of capital market activities, and to provide support to other locations.
