Project Coordinator

Please accept this memorandum as notification that a full‐time Project Coordinator is being
considered for the new Newcomer Connections in Construction and Manufacturing program.
Length of Position: February 20, 2018 to March 31, 2019
Job Classification: Level VI
Hours Per Week: 35
Position Summary
The primary purpose of the Project Coordinator, Newcomer Connections in Construction &
Manufacturing is to facilitate the training, placement and support of 24 vulnerable newcomers in
construction and manufacturing roles. This position will be responsible for recruiting and selecting
suitable candidates, and facilitating wrap‐around supports. The Project Coordinator will facilitate an
employer advisory group, organize skills‐specific training with local trainers, and collaborate with
internal Job Development and Language Instruction staff to facilitate client placements and English
language training. The Coordinator will also organize and deliver weekly group sessions to participants
to facilitate understanding of Canadian workplace norms, occupational health & safety, workplace rights
& responsibilities, community supports, etc, and provide ongoing support to participant to promote job
retention and service coordination to facilitate successful integration of newcomers in the community.

f. Knowledge of career development; job search process; workplace requirements
g. An understanding of workplace‐related legislation, including Employment Standards,
Occupational Health & Safety and Human Rights
h. Knowledge of immigration programs and categories
i. Flexibility, creativity and effectiveness in working collaboratively in a cross‐departmental and
cross‐cultural team
j. Ability to deal with sensitive issues with discretion and to respond positively to challenges

Demonstrated good judgement and a clear understanding of appropriate service boundaries
l. Comfort working autonomously in off‐site locations and promoting KEYS programs and services
in those communities in a professional manner
m. Must treat all individuals with equal respect and interact in a tactful, supportive, professional
manner
n. Commitment to KEYS vision, mission and values
o. Strong presentation and facilitation skills
p. Ability to advocate to employers, government officials and other service providers, on behalf of
vulnerable newcomers
q. Proficiency in a second language, such as French, Arabic, Mandarin, Dari, Spanish, Swahili or
another language will be considered an asset

Qualifications
a. Post‐secondary education preferably in Counselling/Teaching/ HR Recruitment or combination
of education and relevant work experience
b. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a relevant field
c. Previous experience working with newcomers
d. Knowledge of the construction and manufacturing industries a definite asset
e. Case management and reporting experience is a definite asset
f. Valid driver’s licence, proof of adequate insurance and a reliable vehicle is necessary.
g. A recent (within past 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Check will be required should an offer of
employment be extended.
Work Environment (Equipment, Demands and Hazards)
a. Office setting in Kingston with frequent travel to off‐site locations within the KEYS catchment
area
b. Professional appearance is required; casual business attire.
c. 35 hours per week with occasional early morning or evening activities – flexibility required
d. Occasional attendance at training events outside of our community may be required
e. Use of cell phone, office equipment and program related databases.
