Primary role is to support the Vice-President Research and Innovation (as well as Faculty and Divisional partners) in demonstrating the achievement of the research objectives of the University through evidence based reporting and analytics. The incumbent will provide research business intelligence (BI) and perform data analysis using external and internal data sources to support the reporting and accountability needs for the universitys research agenda. Working as part of the OIPA team, the incumbent will provide research BI in the form of reporting and analytics to VPRI, VPA&P, Faculties, OIPA and other units across campus and integrate into the institutions accountability reporting to MAESD.
The position is responsible for the technical management of institutional research data system(s) (currently SOPHIA) to maintain data integrity and acts as the principle liaison on research data to ensure interoperability with other institutional data systems. Works to maximize Yorks use of external data sources such as SciVal and Plum X and maximize Yorks presence in them as well as utilize the research data within the OST data exchange as part of the Comprehensive University Benchmarking Consortium (CUBC) for the purposes of maximizing the Universitys research reputation. Identifies and reports on innovative measures of scholarly impact that are discipline-sensitive.
The role requires a thorough understanding of how the university reports, collects, and manages various research data systems across campus. The success of this role is dependent on the incumbents ability to design, develop and integrate comprehensive and robust research reporting mechanisms from these systems to support research administration across campus as well as identify areas of opportunity to strengthen Yorks research performance.
Education:
Undergraduate degree and related experience in a relevant discipline (e.g., computer science, statistics, economics, mathematics, business administration, data analysis).
Experience:
Minimum 5 years related experience with data systems and coding environment, preferably in a post-secondary institution.
Skills:
Excellent quantitative and research skills and advanced analyst skills. In-depth knowledge of relational databases and ODBC required. Some knowledge of statistical software SAS preferred. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and data illustration and visualization tools required.
Excellent collaborative, interpersonal and communication skills in order to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical users (written and oral); exceptional ability in requirements gathering and translating user needs into system requirements; excellent project management and planning skills, ability to work independently, set priorities and work effectively under pressure; ability to attend accurately to detail; ability and willingness to keep abreast of technological developments with strong ability to adapt quickly to rapidly changing environments; excellent organizational skills; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to write clear, concise documentation. Excellent project management, prioritization and time-management skills to manage multiple on-going project simultaneously.
