Headquartered in Kingston, Ontario, we have recently opened a new office in Syracuse, NY and we are now seeking an experienced senior accountant ready to step up into a Controller role.
The DocuPet solution includes an easy-to-use online licensing system, branded website and communications, real-time tracking and reporting, fulfillment and customer service, and value-added services for pet owners including our Lost Pet Alert System and Rewards Program.

The Position
Docupet is looking for an experienced senior accountant who is ready to take the next step to a controller role.
We are expanding rapidly and need a ready-made leader to manage processes, develop new ones, assist with reporting both internally and externally, and generally help us create a high-functioning finance organization that supports the needs of our business operationally with minimal distraction to very busy managers.”
Responsibilities
- Planning, directing and coordinating (owning) all accounting operational functions including:
- GL Accounting
- Invoicing, Accounts Receivable and Revenue Reconciliation
- Accounts Payable and Purchasing
- Managing internal and outsourced payroll operations
- Cash Management and Cash Flow planning
- Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
- Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements and all necessary filings. Ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
- Overseeing and coordinating outsourced US accounting service with a goal to bringing it in-house.
- Assisting Operations department with registrations, filings and reporting.
- Coordinating activities of external auditors and tax services.
- Providing management with information necessary to the decision-making process.
- Managing the budget implementation and reporting process.
- Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
- Creating and evaluating any additional accounting and internal control systems
Skills
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Experience with creating financial statements
- Detail oriented and methodical in execution of financial responsibilities
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while taking ownership of the financial operations of the company and its subsidiaries.
- Knowledge and experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
- Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
Qualifications and Experience
- 5 or more years experience in increasingly senior accounting positions in small to medium sized businesses.
- Diploma, degree or professional credentials (CMA, CGA or CA) in accounting a significant plus.
- Exposure to multinational operations, ability to oversee outsourced financial operations staff and services.
- Prior experience in software or technology companies a plus.
- Specific experience with Sage Intacct a plus.
