POSITION: Staff Accountant, Accounting/Taxation/Auditing – Quality & Efficiency
REPORTS TO: Partners and Managers
QUALIFICATIONS:
University degree and a minimum of one year experience in a public accounting firm
An uncompromised level of honesty and integrity
Accepts the responsibility and accountability of the Position
Consummate professional in every way (demeanor, attire, written and verbal communication, meeting deadlines, adapting to one’s environment and being a role model to staff/clients, etc.)
A track record of success in leadership, people and performance management skills, mentoring and staff development to higher levels of performance
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent time management and organizational skills; habit of effectively managing multiple projects and deadlines – must be detail orientated
Internally motivated to deliver accurate results in a highly efficient manner on time and on budget

Demonstrated ability to schedule, delegate and oversee on time, on budget delivery

SUMMARY STATEMENT
Reporting to the Partners and Managers of the firm, the Staff Accountant is responsible and accountable for the following:
Planning, organizing implementing the tasks to deliver on time, on budget execution while providing exceptional customer service.
Always acting in the firm’s best interests.
To behave like an owner of the firm.
To lead everything you are responsible for well.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Summary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Year-end engagements
Plan, prepare and index information for compilation, review and audit engagements
Prepare accurate and properly formatted financial statements with appropriate disclosures and ensure that CPA Canada Handbook principles are followed where appropriate
Reconcile investment schedules
Tax
Prepare corporate, personal, partnership and trust tax returns
Assist with personal and corporate tax planning
Prepare tax research where required to respond to client queries
Assist with corporate reorganizations
Prepare various tax election forms
Supervision
Supervise, train, develop and mentor students
May be required to step into any role within the firm in order to support the team as needed.
Other
Communicate effectively with clients to obtain information and provide basic advice
Prepare/review ongoing payroll as necessary for clients
Interact with all levels of staff, including partners, on client and administrative matters
Conduct or provide input into staff performance reviews
