Purpose:

 

Contributes to the overall success of the Global Banking and Markets & Treasury (GBM&T) Compliance globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team, Group Treasury and Global Banking & Markets business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities are conducted efficiently and effectively in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. 

 

Accountabilities:

 

Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
 

Support the GBM&T Compliance Management team develop, implement, monitor, update and sustain global and regional Compliance efficient operations.
Support the Bank’s ongoing management of operational, regulatory and compliance risks as articulated under the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, Operational Risk Management Policy, Compliance Risk Summary Framework, and the Conduct Risk Summary Framework, including  assisting with department’s performance of effective challenge activities and library maintenance for GBM&T Enterprise Risk and Compliance Management (OSFI E-13).
Provide strategic and tactical information, advice and counsel to GBM&T Compliance’s Management team and regional team members with respect to the current and future state of Compliance’s global and regional Program and operations to ensure that the firm’s compliance risks are managed effectively, efficiently and consistently across jurisdictions in accordance with the firm’s Risk Appetite.
Support and contribute to the Compliance Management team’s ongoing leadership and management of the GBM&T Compliance Program by ensuring that the Compliance Management team receives timely and relevant information relating to, amongst other things, risk assessment, regulatory developments, monitoring and testing results, internal audit and regulatory review results, regulatory enquiries and stakeholder feedback.
Facilitate and contribute to the preparation of management reporting materials that are comprehensive, accurate and timely and ensure that the state of business and Compliance operations are transparent to board members, the Bank’s senior executives, business, Compliance and other stakeholder management groups. 

Lead and/or provide support to Compliance projects and investigations
Directly, or indirectly, coordinate and collaborate to ensure:
Global and local Compliance policies and procedures reflect, at a minimum, relevant Global Compliance standards and applicable legislative and regulatory requirements, including being globally consistent.
Risk assessments are performed within expected timeframes
Management and communication of regulatory change events
Enterprise Compliance governance programs, including effectiveness self-assessment, document management, annual planning, goals, allocations and budgeting activities. 

Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
 

Education/Experience Required:

 

University Degree or College Diploma – post graduate degree in law or business is an asset
Broad corporate banking, investment banking and capital markets and regulatory experience (10+ years), preferably with a large financial institution, established securities dealer or regulatory agency. 
Experience developing, enhancing and/or coordinating global programs would be an asset but is not required.
Knowledge of international regulatory agencies and regulatory frameworks relevant to corporate banking, investment banking and capital markets businesses, in major international markets including Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Asia and/or Latin America would be an asset but is not required.
Ability to think and operate at both a strategic and operational level, as required.
Enquiring mind, sound judgment and strong organizational skills.
Pragmatic and results oriented.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to learn, adapt and remain resilient in a fast paced, dynamic and challenging work environment.
