The team:

Scotiabank’s Global Technology Services (GTS) – Infrastructure Operations is responsible for managing and supporting Scotiabank’s Hadoop platforms covering Canada, Caribbean, Latin America (LATAM) and various other countries. Manage and implementation of new technology, security patches and software deployment across the bank, as well as collaborating in the process of continuous improvement to the different subsidiaries under the direction of globalization and consolidation of applications and services.

 

The role:

You will play critical role to support and improve user experience for our Hadoop platform and tools. You will be responsible for deploying, monitoring, and supporting this environment, directly working with developers, business users, and other related support teams.  You will create test plans, test strategies, and perform manual/automation testing. As an active collaborator on end to end projects, you will follow up with troubleshooting of any production issues reported and fix, if required, any further enhancement(s) and ensure working product are delivered with quality.

 

You are a part of a team that works a rotational shift that includes from late afternoons to evenings, or overnights during the work week. The rotational shift would also include weekends & statutory & bank holidays.

You thrive on being hands-on during mid to complex project deployments into production. This will include the support of assigned systems by acting as an internal consultant on assigned infrastructure and providing suggestions for viable solutions to systems problems of high complexity.
You want to be challenged with complex problem solving in time sensitive situations to reduce system downtime and able to suggest solutions to automate recurrent issues to improve user experiences.
You are highly interested in technologies related with big data and large-scale computing like Hadoop, Kubernetes and Linux clusters and is comfortable reading and sometimes writing code.
 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

You have strong communication (verbal/written) and good interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external business partners and vendors.
You have at least 5+ years of hands-on technical working experience in supporting, deploying, and interconnecting various technologies (e.g., Hadoop – HDP/CDP, Linux servers, Kubernetes, compiling code, applications, libraries, monitoring, etc…) at an enterprise scale.
You are familiar with DevOps/Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) concepts and tools and can apply them in your daily tasks to improve execution and quality of service.
You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience with general Operating System (OS) support on any Linux and/or flavour of Unix OS.
You possess superior problem solving and decision-making skills to resolve work issues with the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
You possess a strong core foundation experience in fundamental software deployment technologies via the use of shell scripting, Python and/or Java.
You have completed a post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technology-based major.
