Java /J2EE Programmer Analyst with Application Development Support

We are seeking an energetic, self-starter willing to take on a challenge!  This position belongs to a development team that develops and supports Liquidity Risk applications in Global Risk Technology (GRT), supporting the Group Treasury business area. The successful candidate is responsible for independent development tasks, including assisting in the analyst, design, and support of cost-effective, mission-critical, on-line, risk management, and decision support systems for the Scotiabank group.

 

The candidate must be able to interact with various people including the Team Manager, Business Analysts, Users, and Production Support groups.
As part of the GRT- Liquidity Risk and Stress Testing team, the incumbent will contribute to the success of the bank’s Risk Management/Group Treasury/Regulatory & Compliance by enhancing various functions by delivering new initiatives.
The incumbent will have at least 3+ years of progressive IT experience, preferably in the financial industry.  The individual must thrive on challenges, be proactive and dynamic, and demonstrate initiative and eagerness to learn.
The incumbent should also have a strong Business and Technical background.
The incumbent must be able to interact with various people including the Team Manager, Business Analysts, Users, and Production Support groups.
 

Key Job Accountabilities

 

Provides front-line application support and coordination when application problems occur.
Develop enhancements on existing applications, including the development of new extensions to existing applications.
Assists in Integrated System Test (IST) by supporting the test plan, test case validation, and execution.
Works closely with Business Analysts, and team members to understand business requirements that drive the analysis and design solutions.
Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with business stakeholders, various technology teams, and production support teams.
Conduct periodic reviews of internal processes and controls to identify opportunities for process improvement and methodology enhancements.
Involved in the full systems life cycle and is responsible for designing, coding, testing, implementing, and supporting applications software.
Responsibilities may also include participation in component and data architecture design; performance monitoring and product evaluation.
As part of the team, identify and lead strategic improvements to our systems and processes.
 

 

Skills, Experiences, and Functional Competencies

 

Must be a self-starter, fast learner with a positive attitude, and be a team player.
Extensive proven working knowledge and data model design experience with Oracle and/or SQL Server databases 
Knowledge of BIS tools such as Tableau and Business Objects is an asset.
Proven experience with Microservices, Cloud, DevOps, and Hadoop is an asset.
Strong knowledge of SDLC and PMLC methodologies, including Agile.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
A dedicated self-starter with proven leadership and coaching skills.  
Strong team player with clear, concise communication skills to articulate with business users regularly and maintain a customer service-oriented mindset.
Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, perform well under pressure, and change priorities as needed
The incumbent must have a solid background in system and application architecture solutions, development, maintenance, and support of a variety of banking/applications on different technology and platform
Demonstrated aptitude in testing complex systems and changes, including the creation of test data that can be used for repeated regression testing purposes.
Must have a minimum of 3 years of technical hands-on working experience with Java Enterprise Edition, Python, and open source tools/libraries
3+ years of technical hands-on working experience with Python for support and development related activities 
Proven experience with Object-Oriented Design, Design Patterns, and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).
Proven experience with distributed system development using Web Services (SOAP or Restful), HTTPS, JSON & MQ.
Experience with File Transfer Protocols (FTP) and processes such as TCP/IP, Socket, and Secured FTP.
Technical hands-on working experience with Cloud-based environments would be an asset.
Experience with Change Management would be an asset.
 

Education and Other Requirements

 

Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software/Computer Engineering, or related technology field.
