Disclaimer“This is for ongoing opportunities and not for an active or specific position. As such, you may not hear back from us immediately. In addition, this is a general overview of the Digital Engineering Community of Practice; therefore actual roles, in reality, will vary in their seniority and specific skill sets needed.”

What does Engineering at Scotia really mean?

We have a lot of fun sandboxing wild new ideas for the future of digital banking, but our true purpose is to identify real-life problems and solve them with technology. We’re changing the way our customer’s bank, one release at a time. We do this by creating synergies between teams, collaborating and working within a flexible and agile environment so that we can deliver business impact.

You’ll be exposed to business challenges from the start, and they can get pretty tricky. Are you up for that? We can’t transform a global financial institution overnight, and we wouldn’t be doing it right if we did. Millions of customers worldwide trust us with their money, and we need to make sure that we’re building great experiences and that we’re building them right. That means security is absolutely critical to successful deployments because we protect our customers at every step of the way. We’re design-led, which means our customers, their needs, and their preferences are leading our development. Are you customer-obsessed like we are? Then read on!

Who would I be working with and what are they like?

You’ll work with people who are incredibly passionate about transforming the customer experience. That means collaborating on projects with Designers and Product Owners, and directly influencing other teams to make better, data-driven decisions. You’ll get to work in the weeds, practicing and digging deep into your technical breadth while shaping your business skills and acumen. This means not only working on critical products that directly correlate to our companies objectives, but you’ll also be encouraged to pick up passion projects from the side of your desk that you believe will help us change the way our customer’s bank. If you have a great idea, we want to hear it, and we want to explore it!

While we’re off solving problems and tinkering with new tools and technology, check out a couple of key projects we’ve recently worked on…

eHome: eHOME, launched on March 26, 2019, and it’s a fully digital mortgage experience that allows customers to apply, get approved, and fund their mortgage from the comfort of their own home. Scotiabank’s new mobile banking app: While this was a collaborative effort, the Engineering team played an integral role in building the new Scotia app. Our human-centric approach focused on killer basics and innovative capabilities built on a highly efficient and scalable front-end architecture. This app will foster deeper relationships with customers on mobile – our fastest growing digital channel.

Sounds intriguing… but how do I fit in?

•    You’re not afraid to work hard and adhere to deadlines

•    At times things can change on the fly so it’s important that you can adapt quickly to lots of moving parts: previous experience in an agile environment is always helpful
