Purpose
As a member of the Canadian Banking Analytics: Sales and Channel team, the Manager, Branch Data is a branch data expert and develops and supports processes to collect, merge and transform data from our retail branch and benchmarking systems to facilitate timely and accurate analysis of the operational capacity, product/process efficiencies and performance of our customer-facing retail channels in support of several business teams. This role also includes data analysis and visualization functions including using analytics and BI tools to uncover insights in support of business initiatives and inquiries.
Key Accountabilities
Extract, transform and load data from a wide variety of systems and platforms, including MVS (mainframe flat file extracts), Enterprise data warehouse (DB2), enterprise Data Lake (Hadoop HDFS/Hive), our AI platform (MinIO/Presto/Trino), Excel, and other various databases and sources
Own, develop, build and maintain our data marts and repositories, along with all associated processes built in SAS, DB2, HDFS and MinIO using tools and languages including SQL, SAS, Python, Spark, MVS/JCL along with automation in Cron, Airflow and Windows
Improve, automate and document existing processes and workflows, with a focus on continuous improvement
Maintain an in-house data collection application, including reviewing and refining user requirements, identification of problems and recommended solutions, and application process design and automation
Continuously identify opportunities for new and improved data, as well as leverage opportunities to share our data and collaborate with other teams
Work closely with data infrastructure groups on data-related matters such as implementation of new data sources and feeds, platform migration, and data requirements for projects
Use a variety of analytical and reporting tools (including SAS, SQL, Power BI, Python) to combine data from all of our data sources to perform complex analysis and reporting, including interactive dashboards, regular reports and ad-hoc requests as required
Design, develop and implement interactive dashboards using Power BI for sharing with a wide audience, and lead the adoption of Power BI as the primary data and content delivery tool for our business partners
Ensure the integrity of our data, and implement appropriate data quality processes
Effectively manage and prioritize multiple business initiatives, projects and ad-hoc analyses with business stakeholders
Provide day-to-day data and process support, and coach, assist, share knowledge and expertise to new and existing team members with varying degrees of technical and data expertise
Understand how the Banks risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct
Education and Other Requirements
5+ years of experience in a data engineering or data analytics role
Degree in Computer Science, Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics or related fields
Must be proficient with SAS, SQL, Power BI and Excel
Mainframe MVS/JCL experience would be a significant asset
Experience with big data and processes that collect data from multiple disparate sources
Demonstrated experience with building, automating and schedule data workflow
Experience with Python, HDFS/Hive, Spark, MinIO/Presto/Trino, Airflow, Docker, Git would be an asset
Open to learn new tools and explore new ways of analyzing data and business performance
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to interpret and consolidate large amount of information in actionable recommendations
Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. Ability to communicate and translate technical concepts to non-technical staff
Knowledge of banking and financial services products, covering all business lines (day-to-day, borrowing, investing, insurance, wealth management, and small business) would be an asset
Must be flexible to adapt to a dynamic environment and make quick and sound decisions under pressure
Must be reliable, pro-active, results-oriented, customer-focused and attentive to details
Must possess excellent time management and organizational skills
