Manager, Employee Relations – Global Human Resources

Purpose

 

Managers contribute to the overall success of the Employee Relations (ER) and Labour Relations (LR) delivery activities (if applicable), ensuring that specific individual goals, plans, and assigned initiatives are executed in support of the ER/LR teams’ business strategies and objectives. Managers are responsible to provide support to designated business lines, for investigating and finalizing high/medium risk ER/LR cases. The focus of this role is to ensure that issues are addressed in a timely manner and managed at the local level to mitigate the potential negative impact of ER/LR issues. Managers ensure that all activities conducted, are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

 

Accountabilities

 

Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge
Leverages experience and expert knowledge of HR policies / procedures, employment law, and knowledge of/within the assigned business lines (and subsidiary companies)/countries, day-to-day operations, systems and technology to provide timely, efficient, innovative, and value-added insights and solutions on employment related issues and concerns tailored specifically to a business line’s operational need; and to act as subject matter experts for the ER/LR team related to assigned business lines.
Promotes and supports a seamless and consistent experience for employees and People Leaders with ER/LR issues and concerns; and updates and maintains accurate and adequate information within the ER/LR case file, on an ongoing and consistent basis, until such a time as the issue is resolved
Independently assesses, investigates and manages ER/LR cases, ensuring consistency and alignment to established compliance regulations and Bank policies and processes; if required escalates issues to the appropriate ER/LR Lead for guidance, as outlined in the Risk Level Assessment document
Independently analyzes and communicates the facts of situations in order to mitigate the legal risk to the Bank, ensuring global consistency to avoid precedent-setting outcomes; exercises judgement and presents the recommendations and risks; provides professional guidance, coaching and support, and provides People Leaders with the appropriate tools and materials that will assist them in resolving the ER/LR issues presented to them, and that will assist them in achieving their goals.
Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions, ensuring teams meets obligations while respecting operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk (including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct)

Education/Experience Required:

 

Post-secondary degree or college diploma in Human Resources, Business or another related field and/or;
2- 5 years of experience in Employee Relations or Human Resources
CHRP or CHRL designation is considered an asset
Knowledge of how to read and interpret collective agreements (international)
Expert knowledge of employment law and labour law (within the various countries ER/LR supports)
Strong problem solving skills with ability to apply sound judgement
Strong conflict and Alternative Dispute Resolution skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills including strong report writing and presentation skills
Ability to multitask while remaining organized; able to set priorities and meet deadlines
Advanced computer skills in MS Office products
