Overview

 

Within Scotiabank’s Global Compliance department, the Data Analytics team is looking to hire a Senior Data Architect, who will work closely with business partners, technology teams, engineering teams, data architects, data modelers and other analytics teams in the Bank to unlock the power of data and draw impactful insights to support decision-making and day-to-day operations in compliance.

The incumbent should demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners—including technologists, product managers, engineers, designers and senior leadership. The Senior Data Architect will contribute to the overall success of the global compliance team in protecting the Bank’s customers thereby keeping their trust in our ability to provide excellent services all the time.

 

Responsibilities

 

Design relational and/or multidimensional databases to support Global Compliance data domain solutions and physical data modeling according to project requirements for data acquisition and security as well as user-defined deliverables.
Design and develop Extract-Transformation-Load (ETL) processes in accordance with best industry practices and enterprise technology standards.
Develop logical and physical data models including meta data cataloguing, master data management and data traceability.
Provide guidance to developers regarding all aspects of data lifecycle from origination to consumption.
Review existing data models to identify improvement opportunities and implement optimization solutions.
Design, optimize and fine-tune data models to support data visualization tools to ensure optimal performance and enhanced user experience.
Application of tools for data analysis, data mining, source-to-target data mapping, data domain and referential integrity verifications; programming skills are desired.
Builds and maintains proper documentation, data lineage and extract-transform-load (ETL) processes.
Participate in Agile planning and retrospective sessions, attend stand-ups, etc.
Maintains a good understanding of the Bank’s business strategies, policies, risk management and IT processes and disciplines.
 

Requirements

 

University degree in relevant STEM discipline (Computer Sciences, Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering, Mathematics) and/or relevant work experience.
5+ years of experience in Data Architecture, Data Collection, Cleansing, Aggregation, Automation, and Design of enterprise grade applications and systems.
5+ years of hands-on experience with SQL (SQL Server, Oracle etc.), ETL tools (SSIS, DataStage etc.) and programming languages (Java, Python etc.).
3+ years of experience in cleaning, transforming and visualizing data sets working from various data formats (e.g. unstructured logs, XML, JSON, flat files).
Proficiency and experience in building dimensional data models.
3+ years of experience in implementing and managing visualization tools such as Power BI, or Tableau.
SQL Server and SSIS expertise is highly desirable.
Experience with agile methodologies, source control management and building processes.
Excellent communication skills, with a strong customer-focus.
Nice-to-have experience with statistical analysis and machine learning with common machine learning libraries in R or Python.
Nice to have experience with Big Data ecosystem (Hadoop, Hive, Spark etc.).
