About the role

Contributes to the overall success of Digital Banking in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of Software Production Operations.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

What we are looking for? 

Champions a customer focused software stability culture to enhance production environment resiliency
Develop and help to grow deep understanding of SRE discipline and practices in the engineering community
Manage supported applications and provide fixes as needed
Optimizing application monitoring tool stack including fine tuning actionable alerts, process improvements, Major Incident procedure review and enhancements to reduce recovery time, in a distributed and semi-scalable environment
Monitor multiple application health and discover opportunities to optimize in a continuously growing large complex hybrid environment
Lead on call problem escalation and outage recovery effort, not limited to code fixes in presentation and integration layer, but also provide infrastructure level investigation and support where necessary
24/7 on-call rotation supporting multiple applications and occasional weekend releases
Lead post incident technical retrospect to discover and implement remediation actions
Develop automation solutions and/or procure solutions in optimizing manual operational work
Oversee and hands on certificate management and renewal process of digital applications and microservices
Lead knowledge transfer and documentation for level 2 and level 3 operations teams
Map business problems to reusable end-to-end solutions, lead technical configuration, and support deployment throughout the organization.
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Are you the right person for the role?

7+ years of experience in software development supporting complex large-scale customer facing platforms
Proficient in J2EE to support Enterprise Applications and Services, preferability using Java 1.8
Experience with service-oriented or microservice architectures
Experience in working with scalable containerized systems in public cloud (Azure, GKE/GCP)
Strong working knowledge of multiple programming languages preferred (i.e. Java/Spring, React, Node JS)
Have a proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
Experience in building public and internal REST APIs.
Strong experience with APM tools, such as Dynatrace, Splunk, Stackdriver..etc.
Comfortable using Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Launch Darkly etc.
Understanding of Waterfall and Agile development process.
Proven ability to translate ideas into technical and business realities, and to map technology to business problems.
Understanding of software quality assurance principles
A technical mindset with great attention to detail
Excellent communication skills with ability to lead production bridges
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple complex initiatives
