Your Career as the Director of Campus Recruitment and Talent Development:

You’ll be reporting to the Vice-President of Global Talent Acquisition, and responsible for leading a very high performing campus talent acquisition and talent development team who are innovative, hard-working, hungry and competitive. You will partner with Scotiabank’s Leadership at all levels to provide vision and strategic direction with respect to early talent. Further, you will be a key member of Scotiabank’s TA leadership team, determining the direction of the function and advocating for early-talent and development.

What further makes this role unique is that you will reach into every business line at Scotiabank and your stakeholders go beyond leaders in these business lines and include HR, L&D, Total Rewards, HR Operations, Resource Planning and others. Here at Scotiabank, people and talent strategies are key pillars of performance. You will get to work with and influence the most senior business leaders, globally.

Our Campus Recruiters are strategy-driven and rely on sales and marketing skillsets to forge relationships with students and stakeholders such as key members of career centres. Our Program Managers are all about ensuring that their programs provides targeted development, impactful coaching, mentorship and oversight of rotation selection and management, as well as oversight of the analyst/associate transition to the business.

But wait there’s more! You will be responsible for influencing headcount decision making across the business, providing key insights and competitive intelligence regularly, working closely with Academic Partnerships to influence key spending and relationships at the University and College levels, overseeing partnerships in the community and other strategic investments, and challenging the status quo when it comes to talent development and engagement.

We believe in relationships so we want someone who is a collaborator, is driven and who wants to win. And you need to be innovative. Our recruiters aren’t resume screeners – in fact we no longer require student resumes and don’t rely on them! It is a busy job with non-standard hours, with some travel, mainly within Canada and the U.S. – COVID-permitting of course.

Qualifications/ Requirements:

For this role, we believe in hiring people for our team based on skills and talent, over experience. Experience does help a lot though at this level as you’ll be expected to require little hand-holding so someone with multiple years of campus recruitment and/or program management experience will be better setup for success, which is important. Understanding the banking business is also a huge boost, but we’re happy to teach, especially if you already understand large and complex working environments. You will need to balance different needs from different stakeholders and have a strong voice. You need to be creative and enthusiastic with a friendly and positive outlook to succeed in this space. Organization and efficiency is a key to success as self-motivation.

Education:

A University Degree or Post-Graduate Degree in a field relating to Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or Commerce is preferred, though not required.

This role will require a degree of travel (by car, rail and plane) within Canada, as well as the potential for travel internationally on occasion. Seasonally, this travel can become considerable. As well, due to the timing of key events, this role is not “9 to 5” and will require work during evenings and weekends at times. Scotiabank is committed to being a flexible workplace and our team works hard together to make sure of it!
