Position:  Managing Director, Head of LATAM and Emerging Markets Sales, Global Banking & Markets

Purpose
Leads the development and implementation of the strategic direction, goals and values for Global Banking & Markets (GBM) FICC sales in Latin America and Emerging Markets in line with GBM strategies to maximize return, manage risk and drive an exemplary regulatory culture.  Directs an effective sales, marketing and innovation strategy to secure new, profitable business as well as further develop existing client relationships in order to achieve sustainable revenue growth.  

Accountabilities 

•    Leads and drives a customer focused culture. Deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
•    Leads FICC Sales and Structuring in the Latin America and Emerging markets, requiring close partnership collaboration with all product heads and local country management teams.
•    Work with GBM leaders to further a high performing, solutions driven innovative culture
•    Creates a client coverage model that fosters new and existing client relationships and ensures maximization of revenue across all products and businesses, which includes cross-selling, and one that compliments and respects GBM’s product structure.
•     Develops and delivers leading-edge business solutions through innovative product development. 
•    Build a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vision/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
•    Regularly engage in talent scout activities with a focus on diversity & inclusion
•    Embeds all elements of the risk appetite statement and risk appetite measures into activities so as to:
    Entrench prudent risk taking into the risk culture and day-to-day management of risk and ensures alignment between the approved risk appetite, planning and decision making;
    Implement controls and process to be able to effectively identify, monitor and report against allocated risk appetite measures; and
    Act in a timely manner to ensure effective management, and where the necessary mitigation, of material risk exposures, in particular those that are close to or exceed the approved risk appetite statement and/or risk appetite measures, and promptly escalate breaches in risk appetite to Global Risk Management
•    Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles. The candidate will ensure the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls and monitoring to meet the supervisory and regulatory obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, Dodd Frank and conduct risk.

Dimensions

•    Responsible for managing the fixed income and FX sales teams in Latin America and emerging market sales in US, Canada and Europe consisting of 40+ people
•    Team is made up of Sales Professionals and Structurers
•    Geographical coverage is Latin America, US, Canada and Europe
•    Marketing revenue and CVS budget targets with a focus on Value Add
•    Comprehensive client list of Institutional Investors made up of: Asset Managers, Insurance Companies, Banks, Pension Funds, Hedge Funds, Trust Companies, and Corporates in Latin America
•    The Head of LATAM and Emerging Markets Sales is also responsible for ensuring that all staff are trained/licensed and adhere to firm policies and industry regulations. 

Education & Experience 

•    Needs to have a deep understanding of the client base throughout Latin America, Canada, Europe Asia, and the United States, as well as the fixed income and currency products sold under his/her mandate
•    15+ years of experience
•    University Education is required
•    CFA, MBA or graduate work is an asset
•    Ability to speak the local language(s) is required
