Lead Automation Developer (Ansible/YAML)

Automation is a top priority within Scotiabank. The Global Technology ServicesÂ’ (GTS) Tools & Monitoring – Automation team works to identify such opportunities, and then finds innovative solutions that improves overall processes.

 

The role:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, you will work closely with technical teams, customers, Business Analysts, and team members to understand business requirements and design quality technical solutions.

 

This can involve the Automation of a standard manual tasks, Process Improvements, using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify a permanent fix for an outstanding issue, or using Event Management to reduce the number of tickets that are being generated.

 

This role is a temporary full-time assignment to cover a leave of absence. This will be a pro-rated salaried position, on the bankÂ’s payroll, with some benefits. Due to the length of the assignment, you are not eligible to join the bankÂ’s health/medical benefits plan.

 

Is this role right for you?

You get to analyze all Manual Process and work with Technical teams to devise and implement a plan for Automation.
You will focus on P1/MI Incidents and work with teams to solve using RCA or Automating a Manual task.
You make recommendations towards the development of new code or reuse of existing code.
You will contribute to the design of new applications and undertakes enhancements.
You get to develop technical test plans to ensure effective and successful technology implementations.
You may participate in component and data architecture design; performance monitoring; product evaluation; and buy versus build recommendations.
You will provide Level 3 application support and coordination when application problems occur & troubleshoot issues independently.
You will perform RCA to determine the true cause of technical issues relating to Projects.
You will provide guidance and training to less experienced analysts and programmers.
 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

You possess excellent communication (verbal/written) skills in order to work closely with technical teams, customers, Business Analysts, and team members to understand business requirements and design quality technical solutions.
You have at least 3+years of hands-on technical working experience with all parts of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) – systems analysis, design, development, unit testing, and debugging.
You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience with the use of Ansible Core/Tower for automation.
You have at least 3+ years of hands on technical working experience in scripting with YAML, Python & PowerShell.
You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience around any versions of Linux and any flavour of UNIX.
You have at least 2+ years of hands-on technical working experience in the use of Source Code Management Tools (e.g., Git, Bitbucket)
You can demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and a “Team First” attitude is a part of your DNA.
You can prioritize effectively, while managing multiple and conflicting priorities.
You can be relied upon to be self-sufficient when assigned to work on projects.
You have knowledge of ITIL & basic workflow concepts.
You have a post-secondary education in Computer Science or in a related field of study.
Working experience or knowledge with the following are assets: 1) Bash shell scripting; 2) Web Services (i.e., REST, SOAP, creating APIÂ’s); Windows Orchestrator; 3) Windows OS; 4) Azure and/or GCP and/or AWS & 5) Jira or a similar tool for building Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
